ARBOR MONTESSORI SCHOOL
Studio SOGO is presently engaged with the Arbor Montessori School working on the design for a new, phased, 30,000 SF facility on their existing campus that will house four primary classrooms, four toddler classrooms, and one "Nido" classroom. In addition, the scope includes outdoor learning environments for each classroom space, two shared outdoor play areas for each age group, and an exterior amphitheater.
Site utility work will include student and community gardens, rainwater collection cisterns, extensive trails through the heavily treed campus, significant utility upgrades, and native landscape design. SOGO is in the design development phase. Challenges of the site include significant topography, city sewers located uphill from the campus that will require a sewage pump, and a protected wetland around which the project will be seated. The proposed design will step down the hillside to allow at-grade access to the outdoors for each classroom and will minimize site impact while saving as many trees as possible. The design is be developed under LEED guidelines, should the school choose to seek LEED Certification.
